ENCOURAGE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS TO APPLY BY NOV. 14 FOR ‘MYALP’ CONSIDERATION
Young professionals in the Greater St. Cloud region with leadership aspirations are invited to apply by Nov. 14 for inclusion in a prestigious, multi-day workshop in May 2024, as part of the Harvard Business School’s Young American Leaders Program in Minnesota (MYALP). Or, nominations may be made by someone else.
The Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation is again serving as a MYALP selection partner. Those chosen will join other leaders from across Minnesota to discuss pressing regional issues and strengthen their leadership capacity and organizational intent to deliver positive outcomes in their communities.

LOCAL EMPLOYERS RANK BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION AS TOP EMPLOYEE PRIORITY
Local employers responding to a survey ranked their employees’ top priorities as benefits and compensation, followed by positive work environment, work-life balance and career growth.
Those were among many interesting findings in the latest St. Cloud Area Quarterly Business Report (QBR), of which the GSDC is a sponsor.
The findings were recently presented to a roomful of businesspeople by the report’s authors, King Banaian, Interim Dean, St. Cloud State University’s College of Education & Learning Design, and Mana Komai Molle, Chair, SCSU Dept. of Economics.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR OCT. 27 ‘EPIC DAY’

Next Friday, Oct. 27, nearly 5,000 10th and 11th grade students from 32 area high schools will gather at St. Cloud Technical and Community College for EPIC Day, which will include hands-on activities to help illustrate what opportunities can look like within hundreds of careers.
If you’re available to volunteer, you’ll enhance the success of this annual event and might learn a few things about motivated young people at the same time.

THE BARRIERS OF EMPLOYER-SPONSORED CHILDCARE

Lack of childcare is a common response when businesses are asked about barriers for hiring. But how can businesses and communities help ease this burden? A recent Minneapolis Federal Reserve article took a look at companies that offer childcare and what hurdles they’ve had to jump over.
While there are over 8,000 licensed child care providers in the state, the Fed found only 42 sponsored by employers. Only five of those started in the past three years while 60% are over 10 years old.

SCR was founded in 1957 by Don Fitch, after he returned from World War II where he had been assigned to guard Germans who worked on refrigeration equipment at a POW camp.
